FAQ

The Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents (often referred to as the Hague Service Convention) is an international treaty designed to simplify and standardize the process of serving legal documents across borders. It allows countries to facilitate the service of documents in foreign jurisdictions in a way that complies with local laws and respects the rights of individuals involved.

The Convention provides multiple methods for service, including service via a country’s Central Authority, by registered mail, or through direct personal service, depending on the country’s laws and the nature of the documents.

Sweden does not oppose the use of private vendors to execute service of process. This enables us to assist international clients in serving documents efficiently in Sweden.

Article 5 of the Hague Service Convention allows documents to be served through a country’s Central Authority. This method ensures formal compliance with international procedures. In Sweden, the Central Authority oversees and confirms delivery with official documentation, making it the preferred method for criminal cases.

Article 10 outlines alternative methods of serving legal documents internationally, such as direct personal service (Article 10b) and service through registered mail (Article 10a). These methods are allowed in countries like Sweden, which have not objected to these provisions.

This article permits service of process through registered mail. It’s a cost-effective option for non-urgent documents, providing delivery confirmation. We handle all aspects of mailing and provide outcome updates to clients.

This article allows direct personal service by an authorised process server. It’s ideal for urgent or complex cases requiring swift action. Our government-authorised servers ensure compliance with Swedish law and provide proof of delivery.

Yes, criminal cases are the only documents that must be served through the Swedish Central Authority, as confirmed by the County Administrative Board. If you wish us to assist you in this, the correct service is Standard Service via Central Authority. All other types of documents can be served through our alternative methods.

Our pricing details are available directly in our digital order form, where you can review and select the services that best meet your needs.

Yes, Sweden allows private vendors like us to perform service of process. However, to carry out all types of service, the private vendor must be authorised by the County Administrative Board. We hold this authorisation.

Thanks to our local expertise and physical presence in Sweden, we provide more cost-efficient solutions compared to American and European vendors. Our services combine fast, reliable execution with competitive pricing, making us the preferred choice for international clients.

We serve a wide range of legal and commercial documents, including payment demands, summons, termination of rental agreements, decisions, and more. However, criminal cases must always be served via the Central Authority under Article 5 of the Hague Convention.

The service timeline depends on the method used:

  • Central Authority service (Article 5): This can take between 2-6 months.
  • Regular Direct personal service (Article 10b): Generally completed within 1-2 months for regular cases.
  • Express Direct personal service (Article 10b): Generally completed within a week.
  • Service via registered mail (Article 10a): Typically takes from a few days to a couple of weeks.

If the recipient refuses to accept documents during personal service (Article 10b), we are authorised under Swedish law to complete the service without the recipient’s signature.

If the recipient is difficult to reach or refuses service, we can complete the service via a household member, employer, or by posting the documents on the recipient’s door (a process called “spikning”). If this also fails, we will advise on alternative solutions.

For international clients, payment is required in advance. The payment is processed through our digital order form at the time of booking the service.
